The app's title screen
Plug in your digital piano or MIDI keyboard, play the falling notes, then let them fade: the score takes over, and you're the one reading.
Learning · The score
Wait mode, tempo, loop, hands separately, fingerings and fading, above the falling notes.

Android first, on tablets and phones; iPad and iPhone next: get notified of the release.
Real captures of the app, on a tablet in landscape: nothing retouched.
Game · The journey
Notes of light fall toward your keyboard: play them when they touch the line. Every “Perfect” bursts into sparks, the combo climbs up to ×4 and the score scrolls above, every note you play lighting up on it.
Learning
The cursor follows the music and every note you play lights up on the score, with its fingerings. Wait mode holds on until you find the chord; tempo, loop and hands separately do the rest.
Level end
The score rolls, the stars light up one by one and the next level opens. Missed a level? Noctave shows you the measures you missed most and offers to practice them in a loop.
Note reading
A note shows on the staff, you play it on the keyboard. Fourteen steps, from middle C to every key signature, with your reading time note by note and targeted series on your slowest notes.
Noctave plays like a rhythm game and teaches like a piano lesson. Everything works offline, without an account.
Journey
Eight chapters, from the right hand in C position to Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromptu, by way of the Gymnopédie, the Turkish March, Clair de lune and the Pathétique. Every level you clear lights up its stars and opens the next one. Perfect, Good, OK: the combos build up and you want to play again.
Learn
Every piece of the free chapters, and the whole catalog with Noctave Plus. The score scrolls above the falling notes, the cursor follows the music and every note you play lights up. Then fading dims the notes as you play accurately, until you're reading on your own.
MIDI keyboards
A digital piano over USB, a Bluetooth MIDI keyboard connected from the app, or the touch screen when there's nothing else around. Latency is calibrated, the app's sound turns off when your piano has its own, and small 37-key keyboards fold the octaves.
Import
Import a MIDI or MusicXML file: Noctave splits the tracks between the right and left hands, you check the preview and the piece joins your library. A MusicXML file also brings its synchronized score.
Collection
All twenty-one of Chopin's nocturnes, from Op. 9 No. 1 to the two posthumous ones without an opus number: fourteen from their first editions, encoded by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw, five from the Mutopia Project, the two posthumous ones from free transcriptions checked by Noctave. Listen to all of them, learn them at your own pace with the synchronized score. The famous Op. 9 No. 2 is on the house.
Collection
The great showpieces, complete: Liszt's La Campanella, Hungarian Rhapsodies No. 2 and No. 6 and Liebestraum No. 3, Chopin's “Revolutionary” and “Winter Wind” Études, “Heroic” Polonaise and Fantaisie-Impromptu, the Flight of the Bumblebee, the Presto agitato of the “Moonlight” Sonata… Each one proofread against its source, with its articulations played. The most daunting ones wear the ruby of the Master level.
Noctave's goal is to get you reading again. The falling notes are a ramp, not a crutch.
Notes fall toward your keyboard: play them when they touch the line. Cyan for the right hand, violet for the left.
It scrolls above, in sync: every falling note has its place there, and lights up when you play it.
The falling notes fade as you play accurately. The score stays: you're the one reading.
Soon
No MIDI keyboard? Play an acoustic piano: Noctave listens through the tablet's microphone, after a short calibration.
Noctave Plus
Take a picture of a printed score: it becomes a playable piece, with its falling notes and its synchronized score.
The account is optional: it brings your progress, settings and imported pieces to all your devices. You create it in the app (Settings › Account and app), with an email address or with Google.
